How to Stack Lumo With Your Protein Shake (And Why Unflavored Matters)
A practical guide to layering Protein Synthesis Formula on top of the protein routine you already have.
Most athletes already have a protein routine that works. The point of Protein Synthesis Formula is not to replace it, it is to amplify the part of that routine that drives muscle protein synthesis (MPS) and to plug the anti-catabolic gap that protein alone cannot fill.
Why Unflavored Is a Formulation Choice, Not a Shortcut
Flavor systems (sweeteners, masking agents, acidifiers) take up real space on a label and can interact with how active ingredients dissolve, taste, and absorb. By keeping Lumo unflavored, every milligram on the label is doing physiological work, and the formula inherits the flavor of whatever you mix it into.
In practice that means one scoop disappears into a chocolate whey shake, a vanilla plant protein, an electrolyte drink, or plain water without competing flavors or formulation conflicts.
The Default Stack
The simplest, most evidence-aligned protocol:
- 1 scoop of Lumo
- 25–40 g of your usual protein (whey, casein, or plant blend)
- Mixed in 300–400 ml of water or unsweetened milk
- Taken within 60 minutes of finishing your training session
This single shake delivers the full clinical doses of HMB (3,000 mg), L-Leucine (5,000 mg), Velositol®/MyoVera™ (2,000 mg) and Ursolic Acid (300 mg) on top of a leucine-rich whole protein source, hitting the post-workout window discussed in The Post-Workout Window Is Real.
Why This Combination Makes Physiological Sense
Whey or a quality plant blend provides the full amino acid pool your muscles need as raw material. Lumo provides the signaling layer on top of that pool: leucine well above the per-meal MPS threshold, Velositol®/MyoVera™ to amplify the leucine response through insulin signaling, and HMB plus ursolic acid to suppress the breakdown pathways activated by hard training.
You are not stacking four supplements that do the same thing. You are stacking compounds that act on different points of the same recovery cascade.
Non-Training Days
On rest days, MPS is still elevated for roughly 24–48 hours after your last hard session, and catabolic pressure does not stop just because you skipped the gym. Take Lumo with any protein-containing meal or shake. Consistency matters more than precise timing on off days.
What Not to Do
Do not pre-mix Lumo into a bottle and leave it sitting for hours, the leucine and HMB are best consumed within a reasonable window after mixing. Do not assume "more is better", the doses on the label are the doses with human trial data behind them. And do not stop your creatine to make room for Lumo, as covered in Creatine vs HMB, they work on different mechanisms and stack well together.
Bottom Line
Lumo was built to slot into the routine you already trust, not to demand a new one. Pick your protein, pick your moment, add a scoop, and let the formulation do the work.
